Westley made changes for the visit of Yeovil with Stuckmann returning in nets. Huntington paired Wright in the centre of defence with Keane and Laird at full back. Byrom and Mousinho played in midfield with Monakana and Hayhurst out wide. Beardsley played alongside Beavon up front.
The home side got off to the worst start possible as the visitors were awarded a controversial penalty. Stuckmann came out to collect a wayward ball as a Yeovil striker chased down. The keeper slid appearing to touch the ball first with his hands. As Stuckmann was sliding out of the area he let go of the ball but the attacker also went over.
The referee adjudged the challenge to be a foul although it was unclear whether it was in or out of the box. The referee generally had a bad day and awarded a penalty which Williams converted after five minutes.
Preston found it hard to get going with a few half chances but nothing clear cut in the first half. The referee appeared to flash a card at every Preston player who made a tackle and Yeovil did not venture forward much.
North End improved in the second half and were soon level. Hayhurst crossed from the left across the six yard line. Beavon dummies and Monakana controlled on his right, switched to his left and squeezed in his shot with the possible aid of a deflection.
The Whites were soon in the lead as Monakana crossed from the right. Beavon flicked on and Beardsley headed home from a couple of yards out. The visitors had rarely threatened apart from an early second half flick and Preston should have taken control.
Yeovil were then reduced to ten men when Upson hacked down Monakana picking up his second yellow card. The free kick was wasted but Preston soon extended their advantage.
Beavon had a left foot shot parried but the rebound fell to King who was on as a substitute. His cross was bundled in by Burn to give Preston a comfortable lead.
The Whites should have cruised home against ten men but Burn soon pulled one back for the visitors giving Preston a tricky five minutes to see out which they did. North End now face two tough away games where they need to pick up points if they are to be within the top places at the end of the season.
