Preston Punish Poor Forest

13 March 2010 17:27
Preston played some of their best football under Darren Ferguson in the first forty five minutes which was enough to see them win this game and hold off the Forest comeback. Forest seemed nervy and edgy after losing their way away from the City Ground in recent times. Preston started the better but it was on the counter that they scored the first goal. Forest had a corner but Sedgewick and Mellor broke downfield. Wallace was free on the left and was slid in. He finished superbly past the oncoming Camp. Soon after Billy Jones was pulled down int he box and returning skipper Davidson drove the resulting penalty straight down the middle. Matt James then scored a superb goal from twenty five yards out which is a contender for goal of the season just after the half hour mark. Sedgewick then had a header narrowly wide when perhaps he should have scored before Brown scuffed a shot when he should have hit the target to put Preston furthe rin the lead. Forest came back in the second half but were gifted a way back intot he game as Cohen was tripped by Jomes in the box. Lonergan guessed the right way but Blackstock hit the penalty right into the corner. Earnshaw then came on and pulled back another although he looked dubiously offside before striking past onergan. Tempers then rose with Chaplow on for Mellor but Preston saw out the remaining minutes for a vital win.
