Preston Progress On Penalties

For the fourth time in succession Preston have faced a penalty shootout in the JPT competition as they knocked out Carlisle.

Westley made nine changes to his side which ahd played just 48 hours earlier. The rules state that he must play at least six players who fetaured in the game before or after the JPT match. It will be intersting to see the line up ay Bury at the weekend but I suspect that Preston might be hit with a fine.

When all is said and done, it shows that Preston have some depth to their squad as many of the players featured were not guaranteed starters including the likes of Robertson, Amoo and Beardsley as well as second choice keeper Simonsen.

North End took the lead through a shot that defelected off Beardsley before the home side equalised. The game ended level but with Carlisle down to ten men after a two footed tackle by Noble.

The game went to penalties after the ninety minutes. Carlisle squandered most of their spot kicks as Buchanan converted the vital kick to give North End a 3-1 victory on penalties and a passage to the next round.
