Preston North End 0-0 Blackpool - Match Report

Preston North End drew 0-0 with arch-rivals Blackpool in a scrappy game at Deepdale in front of their highest league crowd of the season.

Blackpool ended a run of three straight defeats with a well-earned point in this Lancashire derby.

Blackpool had the best of the early play and had the first chance of the game after eight minutes when Gary Taylor-Fletcher had an effort saved.

Ian Evatt had a shot from an out-swinging David Vaughan left-foot left-wing corner saved after 37 minutes.

Stephen Crainey crossed to former Preston striker Brett Ormerod and he had a shot saved after 42 minutes.

After a scrappy first half it was hoped that the second half would deliver more entertainment to the large crowd eagerly watching but it was not to be.

Firstly, Preston central midfielder Paul Coutts had a shot saved by Blackpool goalkeeper Matthew Gilks after 49 minutes.

Vaughan fouled Preston left-winger Ross Wallace and was the first player booked by referee Mike Jones from Chester after 57 minutes.

Preston captain Sean St Ledger fouled Rob Edwards and followed Vaughan into the book after 63 minutes.

Dudley Campbell had a shot saved by Preston goalkeeper Andrew Lonergan from an Alex Baptiste cross after 76 minutes.

Preston striker and man-of-the-match Jon Parkin had a shot saved from a Wallace cross after 80 minutes.

The only substitution of the afternoon was by Preston manager Darren Ferguson, who brought on striker Chris Brown to replace right winger Chris Sedgwick after 81 minutes.

The chance failed to inspire his team to victory and both sides shared the spoils in a fair result.
