King keeps North End unbeaten

Jack King's strike after just four minutes earned Preston a 1-0 win at Deepdale and ensured Oldham's wait for a first league win of the season goes on.

The result moves Preston, unbeaten in all competitions so far this season, third in the League One table while Oldham slipped back into the bottom four.

The hosts were ahead with the first attack of the game, Oldham failing to deal with Paul Gallagher's free-kick and the loose ball was smashed home by King.

Oldham responded well and could have levelled shortly after but Jonson Clarke-Harris directed his header straight at Jamie Jones.

Lee Johnson's side continued to create chances and George Elokobi saw his effort from 25 yards whistle wide, while Jonathan Forte and Clarke-Harris, once again, went close with headers at the back post.

And Preston's summer signing Jordan Hugill came off the bench for his debut and could have scored after being slipped in by Joe Garner, but the former Port Vale man saw his shot deflected over the crossbar.
