Phil Brown fielded a somewhat strange side for Preston's final pre-season game in which the Whites were soundly beaten by their Premier League opponents. Iain Turner started in goals after completing his move but Preston almost shaped up in a 5-3-2 formation with Coutts playing as a right wing back with Russell, Nicholson and trialist Linganzi in the centre. Jordan played a further game at left back. Once again Preston were behind in less tha 30 seconds althought ere was some misfortune about the goal. Moses turned Morgan inside out to cross but the clearance thisse against Mccarthy who knew nothing about it as the ball ricocheted into the net. Wigan doubled their lead soon after as Moses had a shot defelcted past Turner before Linganzi pulled one back after burying a powerful shot after being left free in the area at a corner. Boyce converted a header before the break and thet was the end of the scoring as changes were made at the break. Ian Ashbee was left out which was no surpise but Adamm Barton and Keith Treacy did not feature at all. Daley came on at half time and looked lively whilst Linganzi who looked strong had to go off at half time due to what looked like a recurrence of his groin injury.
