Parkin set for return

Preston boss Darren Ferguson could draft striker Jon Parkin into his side for the Carling Cup first-round clash at Stockport. Parkin missed Saturday`s 2-0 opening-day home defeat by Doncaster through injury but Ferguson expects to have him available at Edgeley Park. Yet centre-backs Sean St Ledger and Wayne Brown will again be absent as they look to shake off groin and calf strains respectively. St Ledger is expected to return against Swansea this weekend but Brown could remain sidelined for a longer period. Ferguson may look to shuffle his pack after Saturday's disappointing result, with youngsters Adam Barton and Conor McLaughlin hoping to earn starting roles. Ferguson is looking for his side to be more ruthless in front of goal, saying: "We move onto the next game now."
