North End ban vuvuzelas

Preston have become the latest club to ban vuvuzelas from their stadium. The horn-type instrument came to prominence at the World Cup in South Africa but North End say they will be prohibited at Deepdale. Ground safety officer David Asbridge said: "There is currently a great debate amongst ground safety officer's regarding vuvuzela's and there seems to be a desire to steer from the centre. "At Preston North End I have gone with having no vuvuzelas in Deepdale on the grounds that it may cause problems with fans objecting or experiencing hearing damage. "Also, the vuvuzelas could distract the stewards from ensuring the health and safety of the fans. The enormity of the sound created by the instruments could cause problems when hearing for instructions or receiving radio messages. "Ultimately, Preston North End believe the club's fans will need no assistance in creating a great atmosphere at Deepdale for the forthcoming season."
