The striker was signed by Paul Simpson and has been plagued with injuries during his time at North End. He has been out since Christmas with an innocuous knee injury apart from 5 minutes where he featured towards the end of the season.
Mellor was out of contract and met with Westley today over potential contract talks. It is unkown if Westley was going to offer Mellor a new deal but on the advice of the medical expert Neil Mellor has taken the decision to retire from football.
