Mayor takes plaudits

Danny Mayor's double helped Preston secure a 3-1 friendly win over Chorley to lift the Jack Kirkland Trophy. Darren Ferguson's side, who thrashed Bamber Bridge 6-1 on Tuesday night, took a sixth-minute lead when Paul Hayes' cross found Mayor in the box and the young striker had plenty of time to tap home. Preston were gifted a second goal in the 15th minute when Chorley defender Andy Russell sliced his clearance from Paul Coutts' effort into his own net. Chorley hauled themselves back into the game in the second period when midfielder Dale Whitham drove home into the bottom corner, but Mayor curled home his second from 25 yards with 10 minutes to go to make it 3-1 to the Lilywhites.
