Mawene Set To Leave On A Free

Youl Mawene is set to be the third player to leave Preston for Sheffield Wednesday this close season following Chris Sedgewick and Neil Mellor who is set to complete a loan move tomorrow. Mawene is out of contract and has been in discussion with North End over a new contract. Manager, Darren Ferguson was hopeful of keeping the ageing centre back with only Sean St Ledger being the only other recognised player in that position. Since the Hemmings takeover Preston have been put on a tight budget with the wage structure under the old regime being completely un-mainatianable. Mawene was thought to be on around £5,000 a week and was asked to take a cut to £3,000 a week as he was coming to the end of his career. It appears Mawene has turned down the offer and will finish his career at Sheffield Wednesday.
