Preston goalkeeper Andy Lonergan has been charged with using abusive and/or provocative gestures following Saturday's stormy derby defeat Burnley. The charge follows Lonergan's conduct towards home fans at the end of the match, which Darren Ferguson's men lost 4-3 despite leading 3-1 with six minutes remaining. The homegrown goalkeeper has until Monday, September 20 to respond to the charge. Ferguson, meanwhile, has admitted a charge of improper conduct aggravated by insulting and/or abusive language and behaviour relating to his conduct towards referee Kevin Friend in the tunnel after Saturday's game. The case will be dealt with by a Regulatory Commission as a non-personal hearing on Thursday. Ferguson said: "I have apologised to the FA and also to the referee. I'm only 38, I'm still learning myself, and I lost my temper. I know I was out of order."
