Lilywhites boss without midfielder

Irvine will be without broken-leg victim Barry Nicholson for the cup clash. The Scottish midfielder sustained the injury during North End's 2-0 home win over Peterborough on Saturday and is set for an operation on Thursday. Irvine is weighing up the prospect of bringing in a replacement before the transfer window closes after Nicholson was ruled out of action for between three and six months. Irvine could shuffle his pack again after making three changes to his side in the win over Peterborough. Nicholson, Chris Sedgwick and Richard Chaplow came into the starting line-up at the expense of Darren Carter, Paul Parry and Veliche Shumulikoski. Carter, Parry or Shumulikoski could now earn a recall in place of Nicholson as his absence will leave a vacant berth in midfield. However, Liam Chilvers is set to once again deputise for Youl Mawene as the French centre-back recovers from a hamstring strain.
