It had been hinted at some time ago that Laird was set to join up with former boss Westley in the summer no matter what happened in the second half of the season. Laird confirmed that he wanted to sign in January but as unable to due to a clause in Westley's contract agreed between Stevenage and Preston.
The left back was out of contract at Stevenage and was considering his options whilst he turned down a new contract at Stevenage. He was the top scorer last season and will now fill Preston's left back slot which has been of concern over the past few seasons.
