Irvine relishing Championship opener

Irvine's men earned many admirers last season after reaching the play-off semi-finals before losing 2-1 on aggregate to Sheffield United. The clash with Gary Johnson's side is quickly followed by successive trips to South Yorkshire against Doncaster and Barnsley respectively on August 15 and 18. Irvine told the club's official website: "I'm happy to be starting with a home game. We had an extremely difficult away game last year, at Ipswich. "We won it and that gave us a great start and a great platform, but it is good to be at home at the beginning. Bristol City is a very tough game. "They are one of the teams who will be expected to compete for a play-off place and are a team who we have had some tough games against. I think it is a game that both teams will be looking forward to and one that will give both a good idea as to how well their pre-season has gone."
