Irvine out to avoid cup uset

In 2007, North End were dumped out of the competition at the first-round stage as Sammy McIlroy's men claimed a famous 2-1 success at Deepdale. These sides meet there again on Tuesday, again in the first round, and Irvine is hoping lighting does not strike twice. He said: "I think the biggest problem that teams can have in cup competitions when they play against teams from lower divisions is an edge of complacency. "You cannot afford that and you cannot afford to play below your best. "If we believe we can cause upsets when we play against teams from the Premier League, then we have to understand that can happen to us when we play against teams from lower down."
