Irvine confident of beating Blades

North End only sneaked into the top six on the final day of the season but they have proved their quality by beating Birmingham twice this season and recently demolishing Cardiff 6-0 at Deepdale. Irvine accepts that Kevin Blackwell's men pose a formidable threat in the play-offs but he sees no reason why they cannot beat them over two legs. "We know that when we're at our best we can compete with anybody in this division," said Irvine. "We also know that Sheffield United are a very, very good side. "They're a very powerful and effective side and we'll have to play really well to get past them."
