Irvine asks for striker scrap

Neil Mellor and Chris Brown both scored after replacing Stephen Elliott and Jon Parkin in Irvine's line-up for the 2-0 win at Doncaster, a victory that kept Preston's play-off hopes alive. And ahead of the visit of Cardiff on Saturday, Irvine is glad to have plenty of striking options to choose from. "What happened at Doncaster has given me plenty of food for thought," Irvine told the Lancashire Evening Post. "They have given me a problem for this weekend, but it is one I am delighted to have." "It was good for the two strikers to get goals because they have both been desperately waiting for their chance. "When it comes along it is important that you really grasp it, that's what Neil and Chris both did."
