Scunthorpe United defenders Cliff Byrne and Rob Jones are both expected to be fit for Saturday's Championship opener at Reading.Jones has returned to training from a groin strain whilst captain Byrne suffered a hip injury last week but should be ready for the weekend.

Iron manager Nigel Adkins told BBC Radio Humberside: "Cliff took a nasty bang so we'll give him a bit longer.

"We'll see how that one goes because he'll be desperate to play."

Scunthorpe left-back Eddie Nolan will definitely miss the trip to the Madejski Stadium with an ankle problem.

The Republic of Ireland international, who joined on loan from Preston this summer, could return for the home game with Norwich on 14 August.
