Paul Parry, Neil Mellor and Jon Parkin netted the Lilywhites' goals and Tuesday night's 3-0 victory maintained North End's unbeaten start to the campaign, as well as giving them their first three-point haul of the season following draws with Bristol City and Doncaster. Irvine said: "It was a great result it's not an easy place to come and to get a victory was terrific. "To get a clean sheet was something that we were delighted about as well, it was hard earned because Barnsley put you under a lot of pressure, they have a real aerial threat and we had to try and deal with that. "There were times when we needed our goalkeeper to make some good saves and times when defenders needed to make good blocks and they did that and at the other end we were very clinical." Parry's strike, his first for the club since his summer move from Cardiff, also earned Irvine's praise and the Preston boss expects big things from the 28-year-old this season. "It was a terrific run, a great pass to put him in and a great finish," he added. "We've seen that in training, that he's capable, he's got a sweet left foot and obviously when he comes in from that side he's coming on his strong side. "But I'm delighted with the form of the strikers." Barnsley boss Simon Davey, whose side have won just one of their last 11 Championship games and have not won at home since a victory over Crystal Palace in March, said: "It's not good enough, we've lost 3-0 at home. "I felt that the game is won and lost in both penalty boxes. We've had chances and they've had three chances and three goals and you have to be more clinical. "We didn't defend our box well enough and we didn't attack their box well enough." Davey, who took his time in finding his way to the post match press conference, spent the majority of his time following the final whistle addressing his side in the changing rooms. "It's an embarrassment when you're losing 3-0 at home and 2-0 down at half time, it's not good," he added when asked whether he had any harsh words for his side. "They need to be told."
