Boss Darren Ferguson may hand a first start to Iain Hume for Preston's trip to Wigan in the Carling Cup third round. The on-loan Barnsley striker came off the bench to make his debut in Saturday's 1-0 defeat at the hands of Norwich and could now make the starting line-up. Midfielder Keith Treacy and Paul Coutts are expected to miss out with groin injuries and Ferguson will also assess the fitness of defender Callum Davidson. He was a late withdrawal at the weekend and on-loan Manchester United duo Matt James and Josh King are also expected to remain sidelined with ankle injuries. Hume said: "We have got nothing to lose so there is no reason to go out and not put in a good performance."
