Ferguson heaps praise on Parkin

Parkin, nicknamed 'The Beast', opened the scoring in Saturday's Championship clash at Deepdale with a penalty in the 30th minute and then showed delightful footwork to rifle home number two nine minutes after the break.[LNB]Parkin's second goal and his 12th of the season came just moments after North End midfielder Paul Coutts was shown his second yellow card.[LNB]Despite their numerical disadvantage, Preston added a third in the 86th minute when substitute Chris Brown lobbed home a brilliant effort.[LNB]Parkin was denied a hat-trick by a post and Ferguson beamed: "Jon took Cardiff to the cleaners and absolutely battered them.[LNB]"The second and third goals, I don't think you'll see better goals all day.[LNB]"John is a big lad, size-wise, but technically he's as good as anyone.[LNB]"He's been spot on and has taken his chance. All credit should go to John.[LNB]"But it was a great afternoon for us; three goals and a clean sheet, so the lads deserve a hell of a lot of credit."[LNB]Preston opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Bluebirds defender Paul Quinn needlessly shoved Ross Wallace off the ball.[LNB]Referee Andy Hall consulted his assistant and a spot-kick was awarded which Parkin dispatched with a low right-foot shot into the bottom left-hand corner.[LNB]And Parkin seized centre stage again in the 54th minute with a superb turn and shot after Coutts had been shown his second yellow card moments earlier.[LNB]"The key moments went our way - the penalty and the second goal just after the sending off," acknowledged Ferguson.[LNB]"But I think we played 38 minutes with 10 men and have scored three goals and a got a clean sheet.[LNB]"The turning point was when Parky got the second so soon after the sending off.[LNB]"But the lads, to a man, stuck their heads and bodes in there and it was a great team performance."[LNB]Cardiff were thumped 6-0 on this ground last April, a morale-sapping loss which kickstarted a slide in their fortunes as Preston pipped them to the sixth and final play-off spot on the final day of the season.[LNB]They offered precious little again and boss Dave Jones pointed an accusing finger at Quinn for conceding the penalty.[LNB]"Giving away a penalty was a piece of stupidity," said Jones.[LNB]"There was a push and it was definitely a penalty. It was a horrendous mistake and stupidity costs you.[LNB]"We've not done the right thing. There was a lot of stupidity and a lot of my players need to take a long, hard look at themselves."[LNB][LNB]
