North End reached the Championship play-off semi-finals last term and look well placed to mount another strong challenge. Alan Irvine's men thumped neighbours Morecambe 5-1 in the Carling Cup first round on Tuesday night despite being without the services of internationals Callum Davidson, Eddie Nolan, Sean St Ledger and Veliche Shumulikoski. Elliott, who was on target against Morecambe, said: "The gaffer has said to us that he's happy with whichever side he puts out from this squad. "All the lads are tight together and a close-knit bunch and I think whoever goes out there and plays on Saturday, the rest of the lads will be behind them 100%." North End have been handed a home tie against Leicester in the second round, the match being played in the week commencing August 24.
