Brown included youngsters Devine and Scott Leather in his starting line-up for Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Ipswich and was pleased with the way they performed.
And teenager Devine was left encouraged that North End can end the season on a high note against Watford on Saturday and then head into next season with renewed optimism.
"We had a few `well dones' and the gaffer has spoken about the future," said Devine.
"I'm looking forward to helping the club get back into the Championship but first we play Watford this week."
