Carter wants St Ledger to snub Boro

Republic of Ireland defender St Ledger is on the verge of a loan move to Championship rivals Boro, with a view to completing a permanent move in January, but Carter is desperate to see the 24-year-old defender remain at Deepdale. North End have only conceded four goals in six league games so far this season, and Carter revealed that was in no small part down to the centre-back. "I hope he stays, he's a big part of things here," he told the Daily Mirror. "But your best players are getting looked at by other clubs all the time now, that is part and parcel of football. "I've told Ledge I want him to stay and it's no surprise he is getting interest from other clubs. He has the talent to go a lot higher, you only have to see his performances with the Republic of Ireland to notice that." Preston remain unbeaten this season, after a St Ledger inspired defence guided them to a 2-0 win over Swansea, but manager Alan Irvine admitted he may have to sell one of his prized assets. He said: "Every player at this club will have his price, regardless of whether I want him to stay."
