Bury 1-0 Preston: Report

Brown under cosh

Bury picked up their third league win on the bounce, beating Preston 1-0 to pile more pressure on boss Phil Brown.

David Amoo's first-half strike was enough to seal the points and extend North End's winless streak to 13 games.

Brown's side had looked most likely early on, Jamie Proctor forcing a sharp save from Cameron Belford before Jonathan Forte hit the side-netting.

But Bury were more clinical on the counter-attack, Amoo taking a perfectly-judged ball from Peter Sweeney, outpacing the defence and clipping a delicate finish over the keeper.

The on-loan Liverpool forward came close to a second but Thorsten Stuckmann reacted well to keep out his improvised, back-heeled effort.

Still, the Shakers were given a shock when Proctor fired across goal, the ball skimming along the goal-line yet somehow staying out of the net.

Neil Mellor provided another nervy moment after the break, his fierce shot tipped over the bar by Belford.

But Bury confidently saw out the remainder of the game, Amoo having a header cleared off the line and two further shots saved by Stuckmann.
