Preston boss Darren Ferguson again looks set to be without defender Wayne Brown for the Carling Cup second-round clash at Bradford. Brown, a summer signing from Leicester, has yet to make a league appearance for Ferguson`s side. He suffered a hip-flexor injury in pre-season and then picked up a slight calf strain. Midfielder Barry Nicholson remains a long-term absentee as he recovers from a leg injury but North End were boosted by the return of Sean St Ledger during Saturday's 1-0 home win over Portsmouth. Ferguson - who could shuffle his pack at Valley Parade - said of the Republic of the Ireland international: "When he's playing well he's the best defender in the league." Meanwhile, Ferguson is hoping to extend Manchester United striker Josh King's initial three-month youth loan into a full season's stay.
