Brown pays tribute to Leeds display

Phil Brown praised the way Leeds defended during their 2-1 win over his Preston team at Deepdale, but insisted North End can still avoid relegation.

Goals from Neil Kilkenny and Billy Paynter gave Leeds a two-goal lead and, despite Iain Hume pulling one back for the home side, the result pushed Preston a step closer to the drop.

"I've got to give Leeds credit - having had an indifferent January and February, they have started off March like a house on fire. They now have firm foothold in the play-offs and you've got to take your hat off to them with the way they defended," said Brown.

"They threw bodies in front of the ball, personified by a save from Kasper Schmeichel at the end - it was reminiscent of his dad at Old Trafford. But I'm still looking for that bit more quality in the final third that will get us past the winning line.

"All 22 players gave a great account of themselves and the Championship. It's a massive ask to go two goals down against a big team and I've asked the players to stop doing it and giving ourselves mountains to climb.

"I don't look at the league table - we have a points total to aim for and that is still achievable."
