Back To Winning Ways

09 February 2010 22:19
Preston returned to winning ways after two defeats on the trot thanks to a better display in front of the DEepdale crowd. James was thrust into the starting line up alongside Coutss in the centre of midfield with Jones reverting to left back and a recall for SEdgewick on the right wing. Preston played better football on the ground than in recent weeks. The breakthrough was not exactly with the run of play but thereafter Preston dominated the ball. James had a shot from outside the box but a wicked deflection put the ball past the UNited keeper. Preston then passed the ball well but could not find a second. They were denied a penalty when Wellbeck was clearly brought down in the area before the break. Preston started the second half very sloppily as United attacked from the off and hit the post within twenty seconds of the restart. Preston then continued to play on the deck but United started to come out a bit more. THe lead was doubled when Wellbeck was fouled int he box only this time the referee pointed to the spot. Parkin's kick was saved but the rebound fell right at the big man's feet to slot home. Thanks to some jittery moments the away side were given hope and with ten minutes remaining they slotted home. Preston managed to hold out for the remainder to hold onto the three points and lift themselves up the table.
