Almost Safe

Preston secured a comfortable win over Scunthorpe to ease their relegation fears but will be looking for another three points from Oldham.

Grayson has managed to keep a settled side since his arrival. The back four have remained fairly constant with Connolly at right back with Buchanan, Wright and Huntington filling the usual other spots.

Keane partnered Wroe in midfield whilst Hayhurst returned on the wing with Holmes on the opposite flank. Beavon returned up front alongside Jack King.

In fairness Scunthorpe looked a poor side and rarely troubled Preston all afternoon which was befitting of their league position at the moment. Preston needed the points to push away from the bottom four.

The first goal came before the break when Holmes was played in with acres of space. He was free within the 18 yard box and curled a right footer past the keeper. He soon went off with a hamstring strain and will be out for the game with Oldham.

North End changed formation with the departue of Holmes. King played up front on his own supported by Wroe and Beavon. Welsh came on to complement a midfield three with Hayhurst and Keane.

The lead was doubled when the Scunthorpe keeper made a hash of a clearance. Well outside his box, the keeper managed to place the ball at Wroe's feet who hit a magnificent pass cum shot from 45 yards out into the back of the net.

King rounded off the coring with a free header ins toppage time as Monakana showed some fight and skill coming on for the final ten minutes of the game.

Preston have now reached the magical 50 point mark and one more win will almost seal safety. They will hope that comes against Oldham who are below them in the table so that the manager can then experiment in the final few games.
