Scolari eyes last-four spot

Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is confident that his side can reach the semi-finals of Euro 2008 by seeing off pre-tournament favourites Germany in Basel.

Scolari will leave the national team to join Chelsea when their Euro adventure ends, but the Brazilian is hoping to extend his stay for at least a few more days.

He told reporters: "I don't expect it to be my last game. Everything we've done has been with one goal in mind.

"We have defined objectives. We even leave the hotel on the 25th, so I hope we continue with what we planned since we left Portugal.

"I trust my team and I think we will advance from tomorrow's game, obviously while respecting Germany."

Scolari is also confident that wing wizard Cristiano Ronaldo can shrug off the continuing speculation about his future at club level, with the Manchester United ace still linked with a move to Real Madrid.

"He's a simple, humble person," Scolari added. "He works as part of a group and is a good member of the group.

"He is dedicated to the group and has a strong will to win which I haven't seen in anybody else.

"That means the others soak in that will to win and obviously a lot of technical quality."
