Portuguese choose Campinas as World Cup base

The Portuguese football squad will be based in Campinas, in the state of Sao Paulo, during next year's World Cup finals in Brazil, the national football federation (FPF) announced on Tuesday.

The team will train at the Moises Lucarelli Stadium for the sessions open to the public.

The FPF said that they had selected Campinas, in the country's southeast region, because of the proximity of Viracopos international airport which would limit overland travel.

Specialists were also consulted to determine the consequences of "temperature and humidity on the athletes' performances," the FPF said.

Portugal qualified through the play-offs for the World Cup finals and have been drawn in Group G along with Germany, Ghana and the United States.
