Portugal and Brazil to light it up - Free Bet

The World Cup is truly underway but after all the hype of last week the matches have all been lacking in flair and sparkle so far.

The Germans aside but the other games haven't exactly been edge of the seat stuff so today the attention (and hope) turns to Group G also known as The Group Of Death because of the three heavyweights in there.

North Korea make up the group but Brazil, Portugal and the Ivory Coast will all view their matches against the Koreans as the opportunity to improve their goal difference.

It could go down to goal difference or goals scored in this group such is the talent in those three teams however three’s into two doesn’t go so one will be going home with the North Koreans. Hopefully the spark which has so far been lacking will today ignite the rest of the tournament and spur all the other teams to follow suit.

Paddy Power are that hopeful that today will be a goal fest that should the Portugal v Ivory Coast game end 0-0 they'll refund losing bets on the game! Surely with Ronaldo and Drogba this game can’t end in a stalemate but should the unthinkable happen Paddy Power will refund all losing 1st/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast bets on the match.

If there is one player in this World Cup that loves the limelight it's Cristiano Ronaldo so you can be sure he'll try to turn it on tonight and with his unique freekick taking technique and these new World Cup Balls we could be in for some spectacular shooting from distance. Ronaldo leads the first scorer market as a 9/2 chance and is bound to be well supported, Didier Drogba is awaiting clearance from FIFA to play with a protective cast on his broken arm but should he start 11/2 on him scoring 1st could be too good to turn down.

First Scorers

9/2 Ronaldo

11/2 Drogba

6/1 Liedson

7/1 Kalou

9/1 Simao

18/1 Deco

25/1 Eboue

The mid afternoon game sees the Brazilians start their World Cup campaign against North Korea; this could end up being a cricket score if Brazil turn on the style. However this Brazil side under the stewardship of Dunga is more substance over style so don't be surprised if there is more strategy than stepovers from the boys in yellow. There is no value backing them at 1/9 to win this so look at the handicap where they are Evens at -2 goals.

Kaka is criticised in Madrid for reserving his best performances for Brazil so here's hoping that he turns on the style today, he's 9/2 for the opening goal and 11/10 to score at anytime. The Correct Score betting suggests that Paddy Power are expecting goals because a 1-0 Brazil win is 6/1 where as 2-0 is shorter at 9/2. There will be plenty of optimists backing bigger scorelines too, maybe they can beat Germany's 4-0 win with a 5-0 over the North Koreans? That pays at 11/1 this afternoon.

Correct Score

6/1 Brazil 1-0

9/2 Brazil 2-0

11/1 Brazil 2-1

5/1 Brazil 3-0

12/1 Brazil 3-1

13/2 Brazil 4-0

11/1 Brazil 5-0
