Sheffield United boss Danny Wilson hopes Lee Williamson will receive a good reception when he returns to Bramall Lane.
Williamson, 30, was not offered a new deal by Wilson in the summer after three years at the Blades and joined Portsmouth in August.
"I hope Willo gets a decent reception," he told Sheffield United's official website ahead of the clubs' League One clash on Monday night.
"I would give him an ovation if I was a fan because he was fantastic last season.
Wilson added: "Pompey is a great club and it has been so sad to see their situation develop because they have such loyal fans down there.
"Hopefully they are heading in the right direction now and, after Monday, I wish them all the best."
