Wheeler Dealer Whittingham

Guy loans out three youngsters and looks to bring back a familiar face.

Dan Butler, Nick Awford and Ashley Harris have all left Pompey on loan but a former loanee in Jake Jervis should return and may be available for Saturday's match against Exeter.

Butler has been loaned to Aldershot for a month where he'll join up with team mate Adam Webster who has shone since his loan move. It's a shame that Butler hasn't been given a chance at Pompey with no outstanding option available at left back but if he returns from the Shots as a better player then it can only be a good move for him.

Awford and Harris have gone to Conference South side Chelmsford City for a month having already been loaned to Gosport Borough and Havant & Waterlooville earlier this season. The former still has time on his side but the latter really needs to make an impression after failing to make an impact at the Hawks otherwise he may well be released by Pompey in the future.

Jervis will be signed by Portsmouth subject to UEFA clearance, hopefully in time for the game on Saturday. After his loan spell with Pompey last season he signed for Turkish side Elazigspor, scoring one goal in three appearances before being released in the summer.

It seems like Whittingham is keen to have him permanently and he certainly has the talent, you only need to watch his goal at Tranmere last season to see that. He has the right attributes to be an asset in League Two if he could settle down.

The move for Jervis makes sense as John Marquis will be returning to Millwall soon and hasn't been too impressive with his finishing, whilst David Connolly and Tom Craddock may be close to fitness but are unlikely to feature any time soon.

That means that Pompey's only two available forwards on a permanent deal are Patrick Agyemang who can't play every minute of every game and Ryan Bird who, despite his goalscoring cameo at Torquay, is unlikely to earn a regular first team place at Pompey.
