Ward wants more first-team action

Portsmouth defender Joel Ward is hell-bent on forcing his way into Steve Cotterill's starting line-up. The 21-year-old has had limited opportunities since the arrival of Greg Halford, but after Liam Lawrence's suspension, Ward scored and impressed as a makeshift right midfielder in 3-2 defeat to Doncaster. "Obviously the gaffer has his own opinion and what he says goes," Ward told the Portsmouth News. "Hopefully I can play, but I respect his decisions. He knows best. I want to play and I want to play as many games as I can. "I love playing football, especially here and for this team. You set out to play as many games as you can. Hopefully, I will get the opportunity to do that."
