Villa 'filth' upsets Redknapp
09 Dec 2007 - 10:59:35
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp was upset at the "filth" directed at him by Aston Villa fans during Saturday's 3-1 win at Villa Park.
The Pompey boss became embroiled in heated exchanges with home fans during the second half of Saturday's comprehensive victory and afterwards hit out at some sections of the Villa support.
An own goal from Craig Gardner and two impressive strikes from Sulley Muntari wrapped up the points for the in-form south coast side.
"You've got people saying stuff behind you with little kids shouting filth. I didn't bring my kids up to talk like that," fumed Redknapp.
"Do we have to keep standing there and accepting that? It didn't happen when I went with my dad to watch Arsenal play every Saturday.
"Maybe I shouldn't get upset but I do. What hurts me the most is when I see someone going at it, when they have got their little son by their side.
"He can talk how he wants to me. But doing it in front of his lad and making filthy gestures just stinks. Maybe it is a reflection on society."
On his team's display, Redknapp was more positive, adding: "It is a terrific performance away from home. We are on a great run, scoring goals away from home and looking very strong.
"Villa Park is not an easy place to come and to score three goals as well as missing other good opportunities was a tremendous performance."
