Twin targets for Nugent

Portsmouth's new £6million signing David Nugent has set his sights on a regular England spot after completing his move to the ambitious Premier League club.

The 22-year-old has joined Pompey from Preston North End and has set his sights on helping his new club challenge for a European spot, as well as becoming a regular member of Steve McClaren's senior England squad.

He said: "The Premier League is where you need to be to further your career.

"Portsmouth have a great squad and hopefully I can help them get into Europe. You can see the squad - great names and great signings, and I'm looking forward to joining up with them.

"There's a mixture of experience and younger players here, which you need in the squad.

"I can achieve a lot here. I've got to break into the senior England squad as I can't play for the Under-21s anymore.

"The move to the Premier League could have happened last season, but I stuck with Preston trying to get them into the Premier League.

"But that didn't work out and they knew I was going to leave if they didn't go up."
