Sven waiting on job offers

Former England and Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is unlikely to have a new job before the start of the season, according to Tord Grip. The Swede has been out of work since April after being sacked as manager of Mexico following their dismal performance in World Cup 2010 qualifiers. Eriksson has been linked with Portsmouth and is rumoured to be the prime target of Sulaiman Al Fahim, who is attempting to complete a takeover at Fratton Park. But Grip, a long-term ally of the 61-year-old after operating as his assistant, does not expect to be back in work anytime soon. "There will be nothing now, it would have been settled ages ago," Grip told Aftonbladet. Eriksson has received offers, according to Grip, but it is claimed the approaches did not appeal to the ex-Lazio and Sampdoria chief. "They have not been that interesting so all we can do is wait," he added. "We can just wait. There are many managers waiting for a job. That's the way it is in this profession. There is not much we can do about it." There has been speculation that Eriksson could replace Lars Lagerback as manager of Sweden, who are struggling in World Cup qualifying. But while Grip admits his well-travelled friend would like to manager his native country, he does not believe that will happen in the near future. "I have said before that Sven is interested in taking over the Swedish national team sometime," he said. "But he won't as long as Lagerback is still in charge. "There are no such thoughts. We will see what happens. I still believe that Sweden will win their first two qualifiers this summer."
