Sunderland and Fulham lead fight to sign Portsmouth striker Crouch
Sunderland and Fulham are leading the way as four clubs vie to sign Portsmouth's £12million England striker Peter Crouch.
A move to Wearside would have a remarkable knock-on effect, withSunderland striker Kenwyne Jones moving to Spurs and Tottenham's DarrenBent ending up at Fratton Park.
Spurs and Aston Villa would also like to have Crouch on board, but both Harry Redknapp and Martin O'Neill have been told they have to sell before their clubs will meet Pompey's asking price.
In O'Neill's case, that would mean selling Emile Heskey or John Carew.
Fulham would be agreeable for Crouch, as it would allow him to play in his home city and link up with former England Under-21 strike partner Andrew Johnson.
Redknapp may have to settle for the cheaper option of Jones, with Bent moving to Portsmouth.
Crouch is unlikely to consider a move to Blackburn, despite being an admirer of manager Sam Allardyce.
Rafa Benitez has expressed an interest in taking him back to Anfield as a back-up striker but Crouch wants first-team football in a World Cup year.
