Storrie slams Thaksin report

Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie has launched a scathing attack at a report that claimed Thaksin Shinawatra has been involved in the club's proposed takeover. A report on Saturday claimed former Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra has been involved in Sulaiman Al-Fahim's prospective purchase of Pompey. Storrie has been left furious with the suggestions and, following a statement by the club, has moved to reiterate their innocence. He told Sky Sports News: "(There has been) none [contact with Thaksin Shinawatra] whatsoever. I don't know how many times you have to tell some of these reporters. "People just don't seem to want to listen. He has nothing to do with this deal whatsoever. It is absolutely farcical. "People seem to want write this absolute rubbish and nonsense. There doesn't seem much point in speaking to some members of the press anymore. Farcical "I didn't know Dr Sulaiman, I had never met him before. Pairoj Piempongsat introduced me to him. "It is entirely and utterly Dr Sulaiman's takeover. He has confirmed that and confirmed it to the Premier League." The report also claimed Premier League chairman Sir Dave Richards has assisted in the £60million takeover at Fratton Park. Storrie said: "When they mention Sir Dave Richards, who is a really professional guy, that is absolutely outrageous. "He has been one of my closest friends in football for 20 years. How these papers say Sir Dave Richards has done something wrong is farcical." Richards, though, added: "At this stage the Premier League don't know if he [Thaksin Shinawatra] is involved. "The Premier League have met the advisors to Dr Sulaiman this week and we have made it very clear that we want to know who are the shareholders in the possible takeover of Portsmouth. Conclusion"Before it can be taken over the people who are involved have to meet the fit and proper persons test. "There has been a suggestion that possibly Dr Thaksin is involved. If that is the case that takeover will not be allowed to go through." Al-Fahim has had a bid accepted by the South Coast side and is poised to take the reins from current owner Alexandre Gaydamak following a period of due diligence. Storrie feels that the completion of the takeover is on the horizon, adding: "It is currently undergoing and going very, very well. "I think, hopefully, we are looking at no more than 10 or 14 days from it being completed."
