Storrie seeking stability

Peter Storrie is keen to ensure that Portsmouth become a club which 'operates within its means in the future'. The financially-crippled Fratton Park outfit are hoping a much-touted takeover will come to fruition in the next few days. Middle Eastern millionaire Sulaiman al-Fahim has so far failed to come up with the funds required to take control of the South Coast outfit, but new owners are reported to be in the pipeline. Pompey chief executive Storrie hopes the arrival of fresh faces in the boardroom will help to bring some much-needed stability to the club. He has, however, been quick to point out that the days of lavish spending which accompanied Harry Redknapp's reign at the club are a thing of the past. He said: "The decision I took to find a new owner was made in the best interests of the football club. "We have certain financial commitments and it is my job to ensure we meet them. "Over the past three weeks or so, I have been undertaking this mission which will see the club become a much more stable business and ensure we operate within our means in the future. "The whole structure of the club will be re-evaluated under the new ownership, but the key thing for all you Pompey fans to remember is that we are very much alive and kicking. "I will give you more details once the takeover is complete but, believe me, this is good news for all of us." While high-profile departures have dominated the headlines at Fratton Park of late, and there could be more to come as Aston Villa are reported to be closing on Sylvain Distin, Storrie insists Pompey will be looking to bolster their squad before the transfer window slams shut. He said: "Paul and I are actively looking to bring more players in. "With the addition of another three or four, our squad size will not be a great deal different from last season. "Then, when January comes along, there will be money to spend to further strengthen."
