Storrie - James must focus
Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has told David James to 'knuckle down and work hard' after his move to Tottenham failed to materialise.
The England shot-stopper had been linked with a move to rejoin former manager Harry Redknapp at Spurs before the transfer window shut on Tuesday.
However Pompey have since revealed that they did not receive any offers for the 39-year-old, leaving James facing another season at Fratton Park.
The former West Ham and Manchester City shot-stopper has reportedly become disillusioned with life on the South Coast having seen a number of top players leave during the summer.
But Storrie has warned the veteran, who was left on the bench by manager Paul Hart last weekend, that he will have to up his game if he is to regain his place for club and country.
"David has got to knuckle down and work hard," he told The News.
"He may be the England goalkeeper, but we have got a lot of talented goalkeepers here.
"David has got competition believe me. Asmir (Begovic) has grown in stature every time he has played and Antti Niemi is not far from fitness. We have also got Jamie Ashdown.
"David has said things and most of those conversations have been with Paul. Let's just say they have had discussions.
"As far as we are concerned, he is under contract and here to give 100 per cent to Portsmouth Football club.
"If he does not want that he has to tell us that."
Storrie helped bring in six new faces during the last week of the transfer window following Sulaiman Al Fahim's takeover and the chief executive was delighted with the club's business.
"We are extremely happy with how things have worked during the transfer window," he added.
"These are the ones Paul Hart wanted to bring in and we got them. I know he is delighted about that.
"The squad is complete now. We have brought good players in, most of them with Premier League experience and the competition has been increased.
"The quality is there and with the team spirit and everyone pulling in the right direction because they want to be here, that looks good to me.
"I am sure you will see us climbing up the table soon, I'm pretty confident of that. Everything is there to start moving up the league."
Storrie also revealed he was staying at the club after declaring last week that he would question his position after his own consortium failed to buy the club from previous owner Sacha Gaydamak.
"I'm staying and I want to keep working hard for this football club," he declared. "I don't want to be anywhere else.
"I've had hundred of emails of support from fans. A lot of people took the time to contact me with nice messages of support, they didn't have to do that. That was greatly appreciated."
