Portsmouth are being linked with a move for Gareth Southgate as the south coast club look to fill the void created by Avram Grant's departure.[LNB] According to the News of the World, former Middlesbrough boss Southgate could be set to return to management after reportedly being offered the hotseat at Portsmouth. [LNB]The former Aston Villa and Crystal Palace defender, has been out of work since he was sacked by Middlesbrough in October last year.[LNB]However, if Southgate were to accept the job he would take on the daunting task of managing a side with almost £138million worth of debts and most of the current side set to move on this summer.[LNB]David James has also been forwarded as an unlikely candidate for the role this week although Pompey administrator Andrew Andronikou has warned that it may be too soon for the England international to make his first foray into management.
