Sol stays with Pompey
07 Sep 2007 - 15:49:56
Veteran former Arsenal and Tottenham defender Sol Campbell has signed a new contract with Portsmouth.
The 32-year-old England international, whose current deal was due to expire at the end of this season, will now remain at Fratton Park until June 2009.
Campbell was recently recalled to the England squad before injury ruled him out of boss Steve McClaren's plans.
The powerful central defender told Pompey's official website: "I'm delighted to have signed a new contract.
"It's dragged on a bit but everything's been resolved. There's always a bit of speculation around the transfer window but thankfully that's over now and I can just concentrate on playing football.
"The club's moving forward with a talented squad and plans for the new training ground. The club is certainly going in the right direction."
Campbell has made 36 appearances for Harry Redknapp's side since moving to Fratton Park from Arsenal last summer.
