Sahar joins up with Pompey
01 Jul 2008 - 13:54:03
Portsmouth have added teenage Chelsea striker Ben Sahar to their ranks on a six-month loan deal.
The 18-year-old Israel international has made three appearances for the first team at Stamford Bridge and spent time on loan in the Championship with QPR and Sheffield Wednesday last season.
However, he will now get his chance in the Premier League with the south coast club after sealing a loan switch to Fratton Park.
Sahar will compete with fellow strikers Jermain Defoe, Kanu and David Nugent for a place in manager Harry Redknapp's plans.
Pompey fought off competition from Dutch side NEC Nijmegen to bring the teenager to the club.
"I've always wanted to be part of a Premier League team and I'm happy to be at Portsmouth," Sahar told the club's official website.
"I've heard a lot of good things about Harry Redknapp, the club and the staff and they obviously had a good season (last year), so I'm happy to be here.
"I'm ready for the challenge of being part of such a big club like Portsmouth.
"I want to be part of it and to show that I deserve to be here. My goal is to play and I'm a striker so, of course, I want to score a few goals."
