Portsmouth administrator Andrew Andronikou has revealed that Brendan Rodgers is a candidate for the vacant managerial post.[LNB] Avram Grant left Fratton Park last week after a turbulent off-field spell at the club, which has seen Portsmouth drop into the Championship after a nine-point penalty for entering administration.[LNB]Former Reading and Watford boss Rodgers has been spotted at the club in recent weeks and is a name in the frame.[LNB]Andronikou says there has been a lot of interest in the job, despite the unsecure position of Pompey.[LNB]"We've had half a dozen come forward so far," he told the Portsmouth News.[LNB]"Brendan Rodgers is a name that has been recommended to us by a third party. He is definitely in and around our thoughts.[LNB]"Steve Cotterill is another one of the names that seems to have interest in Portsmouth, we've also been told about him.[LNB]"But I can say (first-team coach) Paul Groves has not thrown his hat into the ring - and nor do I expect him to.[LNB]"Discussions have been had between Paul and a senior member of my team and he wants to stay on as a coach.[LNB]"Along with all our backroom staff such as Ian Woan, Dave Coles, Guy Whittingham, right the way to the kitman, he has been tremendous.[LNB]"But he wants to distance himself from the job, he does not want to be manager."[LNB]Goalkeeper David James gas declared his interest in taking the managerial reins, but Andronikou believes it might be a bit too soon for the England international.[LNB]"I know David wants to go into management, but he has not really got the experience at the moment," he added.[LNB]"At his age he has two decisions; whether to go into coaching and managing or go into the media.[LNB]"Really he needs to learn his trade under somebody and needs to get his coaching badges, so I'm not sure whether this is quite the right time for him."
