Robins miss out on Begovic

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has revealed that a move to bring in Portsmouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has fallen through. Johnson is keen to bring in goalkeeping cover for current No.1 Dean Gerken with Adriano Basso still on the transfer list at Ashton Gate. Pompey have pulled the plug on any move for Begovic after David James was forced off with a knee injury in last weekend's defeat to Arsenal. Begovic replaced James for the last 15 minutes at Emirates Stadium and could be set for an extended run in the side if James faces a spell on the sidelines. "We were looking at bringing in Asmir Begovic on loan from Portsmouth but they kept holding off going through with the deal," Johnson told the club's official website. "Then on Saturday David James got injured against Arsenal and Begovic came on, so he's no longer an option. Johnson also confirmed Basso still wants to leave the club after turning down a new deal at the Championship outfit. "When we speak to Adriano it's still the same answer," added Johnson. "He wants to get a move and we'll have to wait and see if something happens before the transfer window closes. "If he doesn't get his move before the closure of the window then we'll have to speak again and see if he feels the same."
