Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has been charged with using abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official by the Football Association following Saturday's 2-1 victory over Manchester City.
Redknapp has been given until February 27 to respond to the charge after being sent to the stands in the controversial clash at Fratton Park.
The Pompey chief reportedly confronted referee Mike Dean during the half-time interval just minutes after midfielder Pedro Mendes was stretched off following an ugly challenge from City's Joey Barton.
Barton received a caution for the tackle which left the Portuguese midfielder writhing in agony.
After the match, Redknapp claimed: "I went to see the referee at half-time and asked how he could give Andy Cole a yellow card for not coming over when he called him and the same for that tackle.
"He said to me I think you better watch the rest of the game from the stands."
