Redknapp: No Nugent exit

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has revealed that Derby County are interested in signing Pompey's big-money summer recruit David Nugent.

The 22-year-old England international has made a slow start to life at Fratton Park and has been left on the bench for the last two games.

However, Redknapp is in no mood to sanction a quickfire exit for Nugent, who he believes will become a major player for Pompey.

He told The News: "Derby do want to sign him, they'd like him.

"But he's only just joined us and I'm happy to keep him here. He's a young player with a bright future.

"Obviously he wants to play, but at the moment Nwankwo Kanu's been absolutely brilliant, John Utaka's a threat and Benjani does well.

"It's been difficult for David, but he has to be patient."
